Foreword Message
From the Minister of Tourism and Culture Malaysia

YB Dato' Seri Mohamed Nazri bin Abdul Aziz

Excellencies, Ladies and Gentlemen,

Selamat Datang and Welcome to Malaysia! We are delighted to welcome you to the 4th World Tourism Conference (WTC) held in Georgetown, Penang from 17 – 19 October 2016. It is indeed a great honour for the Ministry of Tourism and Culture in collaboration with the World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) and the State Government of Penang to jointly organise this global conference. As a premier conference in the field of tourism, WTC 2016 provides an important platform for the key players in the industry including policy-makers, practitioners, academicians and experts to exchange ideas on the latest developments, discover novel opportunities, share the best practices, reacquaint with colleagues, meet new friends, and broaden their knowledge to optimise the potential of the tourism industry.

The theme of the WTC 2016 “Tourism Delights: Delivering the Unexpected”, will broadly cover the present and future of tourism. Issues, challenges, best practices, innovation and creativity, mega trends and predictions on the future of the industry will be discussed by renowned personalities. It will focus on ideas and strategies that are geared towards delighting the tourists, ensuring this conference as the first conference of its kind devoted to the “Tourists First” mantra.

The conference programme represents the efforts of many people. We want to express our gratitude to the members of the Organising Committee, the UNWTO, the State Government of Penang, the moderators, and the distinguished speakers for sharing their insights and knowledge with us.

Join us in these exciting discussions on delivering the unexpected to optimise the future of tourism. We are looking forward to meeting you in the vibrant and UNESCO heritage city of Georgetown, Penang.
